Life

Kate was mid-twenties. She grew up with an unstable family life struggling constantly finacially, and had one brother. Her parents had passed on sometime before 2001.

She was claimed in the explosion, 2002; supposedly dying in hospital with her family by her side of a sudden cardiac arrest, her "mother" appearing at the funeral.

Work

Kate was part of the Mannion's 'New Sun Hill'. It's unknown where she started her career, but she was university-educated and has worked in the Flying Squad for six months before a CIB investigation, dismissing everyone but her. From there, she worked at Stafford Row CSU and had come from there after a six month post with them. She quickly made her mark on the team but worked a remarkibly few cases, including the Myers arson case, with PC Worrell solve who assulted Danny Guinane's girlfriend(connected to his prior soccer holiganism), the Lisa Hayes rape case, went undercover as a cocaine buyer to catch long-time wanted George Stubbs, Mandy Fry for the assault of Cath Evans, closing a dating agency that was robbing its clients while they were entertained, busting Rodger Franklin and his gang from robbing a warehouse, sent to promote the Met's cadet corps and busting a local gang of young thugs, convicting a serial arsonist, catching a serial rapist (with help from DI Rawton), and finally, nailing Vick Sigh for bashing a senior White Supreamist and (theoretically) causing the race riots.

THEM.

Kate was busied and chased by Mickey Webb in early episodes, from her first he was always 'one step behind' her, but Kate made it clear her reluctance to go anything past 'sex'.

Being a Detective Constable, Kate didn't notice of Chandler's interest in her in the early stages of her time at Sun Hill, taking no notice of his continued interest and compliments in her until Mickey Webb mentioned it in Real Crime. Slowly over the next six months nothing moved, his continued reluctance stalling progress (and appearances on screen, both seemed to vanish). Out of the blue Spears returns to the screen, more "favoured" than ever, with rumours of something going on between them rife in the station. He takes her to a police function, he later asking for dinner. When she indicated she wanted to take it further, she suffered major letdown when he rejected taking it that way, winding back in the open arms of Mickey Webb.

Later the relationship started again abruptly under vowed secrecy, and not knowing this, Mickey Webb continued interest in her. Kate rejected his advances, but as time passed, she became more and more restless of the Chandler's control over the relationship.

Pressure from Mickey increasing, on the night of the explosion, frazzled and inebrated she threatened to reviel the relationship to the station. Chandler had a short outburst of anger, throwing her against the wall and tried to calm her. She responded by kneeing him where it really hurts, and stumbled back to fate.
